Employment with the Destin Fire Control District

The Destin Fire Control District has some of the strictest hiring standards in Northwest Florida.  Applicants are put through a full day of written testing, followed by the most physically demanding practical test in this part of Florida.  The top candidates following the day of testing are asked to return for interviews and final new employee selection.

At the most recent testing on February 6, 2007, more than 20 young men and women tested for 3 new positions at the Fire Department.  It was clear to all who watched the testing process that this group of candidates represented the strongest candidate pool ever to test at the Department.

The Destin Fire Control District is an equal opportunity employer.

Battalion Chief Tony Carroll looks on as a candidate begins the long climb up the 105' ladder. A candidate reaches the top of the ladder.

A candidate begins the manikin 100' manikin pull . There are always plenty of DFCD firefighters around to provide encouragement.

A candidate begins the climb... ... and reaches the top of the stairs.

Battalion Chief James Pate runs along with new hire Felix Romero as he begins the hose pull. Felix strains for the last couple of feet as he finishes the hose pull.

Felix completes a bowline with an overhand safety as he finishes the practical testing, while Assistant Chief Kevin Sasser looks on. New hire Tom "TJ" McElyea ties a figure 8 on a bight as he finishes the practical.
