BIO for Tuffy Dixon, Fire Chief, Destin Fire Control District

Chief Dixon was born and raised in Destin. He entered the Fire Service in 1976 as a volunteer firefighter with the Destin Fire Control District. In 1983 he was one of the first paid professional firefighters hired, obtaining his fire education through the State of Florida Fire College and the National Fire Academy. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1988 and then promoted to the position of Fire Chief in 1990. He has witnessed many changes to the Fire Service in the Destin area and today, is proud to lead the most progressive and professional fire department in Okaloosa County.

In 2006, Chief Dixon was elected to the prestigious position of Northwest Florida's Regional Director for the Florida Fire Chiefs' Association. This position brings to Destin, and the rest of Northwest Florida, strong representation at the State level.
